Intramuscular Stimulation (IMS)
IMS is a needling technique that helps to reduce adverse tone in tight muscle bands or trigger points that contribute to pain and dysfunction. By targeting localized areas of tightness with the needle insertion a reflex relaxation is produced in the muscle. This helps to relieve pressure on tender joint structures and in the muscles themselves which in turn influences pain and inflammation produced by the adverse tightness. A special assessment is done to determine if this modality of treatment is appropriate for you.

Shockwave Therapy

What is Shockwave Therapy?

Shockwave Therapy is a highly effective, non-invasive treatment for soft tissue injuries. It utilizes acoustic waves to deliver high-energy pulses to the affected area, stimulating the body’s natural healing processes. This increased energy promotes tissue regeneration, reduces pain, and enhances mobility, leading to faster recovery.

What can Shockwave treat?

  • Achilles tendonitis
  • Golfer’s and Tennis Elbow (medial and lateral epicondylitis)
  • Patellar tendonitis (Jumper’s knee)
  • Inflammation and calcification of shoulder tendons (rotator cuff and biceps tendon)
  • Subacromial pain syndrome
  • Plantar fasciitis
  • Shin splints (medial tibial stress syndrome)
  • Gluteal tendonitis
  • Hip bursitis (greater trochanteric pain syndrome)
  • Osgood-Schlatter disease
  • Hamstring tendinopathy

Benefits?

When shockwave therapy is applied to an injured area, several positive effects occur:

  • Promotes collagen production, essential for tissue repair
  • Stimulates the formation of new blood vessels
  • Helps eliminate painful chemicals from the affected area
  • Helps reverse chronic inflammation
  • Aids in breaking down calcium deposits or calcifications

How frequently will I need treatment?

The frequency of treatment varies based on the patient, their condition, and how they respond to treatment.

Generally, Shockwave Therapy is administered once a week for 3 to 6 weeks, depending on patients’ response to treatment.

Is the treatment painful?

During a shockwave therapy session, you may feel mild discomfort, which typically lasts for about 3 to 5 minutes. The intensity can be adjusted throughout the treatment to ensure it stays within your comfort level.

Following the treatment, it’s common to experience temporary tenderness or soreness in the treated area. This is a result of the inflammatory response triggered by the therapy, which helps kickstart your body’s natural healing process.
